A Guinness World Record was triumphantly smashed at the Life is good
Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, as 30,128 carved pumpkins lit up our
nation's oldest public park, the Boston Common. Over 100,000 people
came out to enjoy the old fashioned fun, simple food, live music and
spectacular sights on a picture perfect autumn day.
While the world record is a proud new feather in Boston's cap, the
ultimate goal of Life is good Festivals is to raise funds and awareness
for children's charities, and Saturday's Fest smashed another record by
raising $271,027 for Camp Sunshine, the nationally acclaimed retreat
for families of children with life-threatening illnesses. This is also
the year Life is good Festivals went national. We spread gourds from
sea to shining sea, thanks to a sensational partnership with Newland
Communities, the nation's leading developer of master-planned
communities. On this one day, 18 different Newland Communities held
Life is good Pumpkin Festivals in 7 different states. And these
big-hearted communities came through in flying colors of orange: over
20,000 more pumpkins were carved and lit, and a whopping $283,184 was
raised for kids in need.
More than 2,000 heroic volunteers across the country made this
incredible day possible. We thank you, one and all. We thank everyone
who attended the Festivals or bought a Pumpkin tee to help the cause.
We thank our generous sponsors, and all the communities who joined
hands with Jake this year. Together you've made a HUGE difference in
the lives of countless children across the country.
